The Worst Generation is brimmed with stupidity, naïveté and youth. And all of that can be what breaks traditions that the older generations have beared for a long time as said traditions are passed down from generation to generation.
The Worst Generation are tough to be around for the older generations because their imagination is very wild and often times destructive, even out of pure innocence. The fault is always on the youth for always having a dream they want reality.
But in One Piece, just like any other underdog Japanese series, they have friends they can trust easy because they have way too much in common to k1ll each other for.
If you are a stupid person of reason, you are the most enjoyed. You have not a single fault other than you have a huge world yet to know. Even the littlest of things are not easily understood the first time around.
Don’t forget that The Worst Generation was always meant to be weakest generation for the strong to leave behind.
Similar to the youth are treated like the weakest link today. Especially in America.
You can tell that kizaru wanted sentomaru to have a chance to survive by letting him grab the axe but the fact that kizaru easily took a strong haki attack (since sentomaru showed haki pre time skip and should be a lot stronger now) and wasn’t even injured shows how much deeper this guys strength is.
So if he had haki Kizaru would just die here?

People are really underestimating Sentomaru's skills. Pre-time skip, he was easily able to overwhelm Luffy, and the ability to use armament haki without any medium is an advanced technique. Obviously he had no chance against Kizaru, but I don't think that he lasted so long only because Kizaru was showing him some kind of mercy.
I'm also surprised that Oda did not used there (or anywhere in this arc) these gloves that allow wearer to interact with light. It seemed like a very obvious counter to Kizaru that Sentomaru should know about thanks to working directly under Vegapunk.
